
Allan Waterfield Receives HENOD Achievement Award
D. Allan Waterfield, Ph.D., a health and exercise sciences professor at the University of Delaware, received HENOD's 2004 Achievement Award at the Annual Training Conference in Newark on March 25. Allan was instrumental in
developing UD's graduate program in health promotion.
Allan is the immediate past chair of the Governor’s Council on Lifestyle and Fitness. He was one of the founders of the Delaware Coalition to Promote Physical Activity and Healthy Nutrition, and is on the steering committee for the Lt. Governor’s Challenge. Working with the Delaware Division of Public Health, he helped create and design the “Get Up and Do Something” campaign, targeted at moving Delaware's young adults to become more active.
He has also been a leader in tobacco control and prevention, having twice served as chair of Delaware's IMPACT Tobacco Prevention Coalition. His commitment to the field of health education is evident through his teaching, grant writing, and volunteer activities.
