Dr. Frelick has more than a half century of service to the public, notably as one of the state's leading cancer experts. He has been involved in medical practice, research, and education — and has been a strong supporter of public health education and of HENOD. He has done patient education, public education, and has taught at several prestigious universities.
The award was presented by HENOD founder and former president Rob Simmons, DrPH, CHES, assistant professor of Community Health and Prevention at Drexel University. The group also celebrated Dr. Frelick's birthday.
The meeting focused on the links between epidemiology and health promotion and on how to translate science into effective practice. Dr. Paul Silverman, associate deputy director of the Division of Public Health, made a presentation entitled, "How to Know Your Audience: Avoiding the Rush to Interventions." HENOD Vice President Fred Breukelman, director of health education at the Division of Public Health, discussed how to use data to develop effective health education, health promotion or social marketing programs. Mr. Breukelman's presentation, entitled "Translating Science Into Practice" is also available as a PDF file.
