Meeting Rescheduled for March 7!
A social/meeting for members and prospective new members will be held from 2-4 p.m. Friday, March 7, at the Buena Vista Conference Center — capping off our annual membership drive. Refreshments will be served.
What better topic for this meeting than humor? Comedian and health educator Joel Weintraub will present "Humor for the Health of It." Joel Weintraub, M.Ed., is a "humorous educator" who has managed to merge the worlds of comedy and education. He combines his professional comedy experience with his masters degree in physiology and bachelors in health education.
Whether you're a current, former, or prospective member, please let us know if you plan to attend. RSVP to mail@henod.org.
Now is The Time To Join HENOD
Our dues are still only $15 a year! For that you get four educational meetings, with opportunities to network with your peers. At least one of those is a major conference or training event, with continuing education credits.
If you are a member, please renew your membership by February 22 to receive a full year of membership benefits. Talk to others who might be interested in joining, and bring a potential member with you to the February meeting. There will be prizes for the member who recruits the most new members.
Prospective members: If you're a professional health educator, a health promotion specialist, or a volunteer or lay worker promoting healthy behaviors, we'd love to have you as a HENOD member. Join now online, or join us on February 22 for more information about the organization.
The Health Education Network of Delaware (HENOD) was organized in January 1997 as a network of professionals and volunteers working in the field of health education. During 2008, we will have a full year of activities and meetings to help improve the practice of health education in Delaware through resource sharing, networking, and training.
Some of our plans for 2008:
- Save the date: Wednesday, April 23, a full day conference on evidence-based health education practice will be co-sponsored by the Delaware Cancer Education Alliance and HENOD. It will be free, and HENOD will provide continuing education credits for Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES).
- In the fall, HENOD will sponsor its own conference, providing training on key health promotion issues requested by members. There will also be a winter meeting in November.
- During the summer, HENOD will once again join a coalition of interested parties to update the Blueprint for a Healthier Delaware state plan for promoting physical activity and healthy nutrition. HENOD cosponsored the original plan, which is available on our website.
- Following the membership drive, a HENOD Directory will be distributed to all members.
In the past year, we have presented meetings and trainings on nutrition and obesity, adapting evidence-based programs to local needs, use of CDCynergy software for social marketing, and violence prevention. HENOD periodically gives awards to Delawareans or organizations who have done outstanding work in health promotion or health education. This website provides links to a wide variety of resources for health educators, and we hope use it regularly.
Join us now! The more members we have, and the more active members we have, the more useful this Network becomes for all of us.
