Lt. Governor Challenges
Delawareans to Be More Active
Lt. Govenor John Carney is challenging Delawareans to become more physically active and to make healthier food choices.
In it's first two years, the Lt. Governor's Challenge has signed up more than 12,000 Delawareans to be more active. The Challenge is designed to help make Delawareans aware that being more physically active can involve a wide variety of fun activities – in addition to popular activities like walking, bicycling and working out.
Participants in the Lt. Governor's Challenge accumulate points by completing any of a wide variety of daily activities on a point list. After about three months, participants can earn a gold, silver or bronze medal, based on the number of points they earned. Participants use an official Challenge Logbook to track their progress. Registration and activity logs are also available online. To request your logbook, go to the links at the bottom of this article.
"The great thing about this Challenge is that there are so many daily activities – like walking or gardening – that are included," says Lt. Gov. Carney. "These activities are a great chance for families and friends to spend some time together, meet new people, have some fun and be more physically active."
Lt. Gov. Carney encourages groups to take the Challenge, because it adds an element of support and fun for the participants. "By taking the Challenge, Delawareans will take the first step toward a healthier lifestyle."
The Lt. Governor's Challenge was developed in conjunction with the American Cancer Society, Christiana Care Health System, the Division of Public Health, the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce, the YMCA, and the University of Delaware.
